ALTARPIECE OF THE SACRED FAMILY

20-CAPELLA-DE-LES-ÀNIMES.jpg

The altarpiece is dominated by a painting that represents the Virgin Mary with the Child; to the left is Saint Joseph and, under Saint Joseph, kneeling towards the Child, we can see Saint Anne; in the right part of the complex we find Saint Joachim. At the top of the painting is God the Father, the Holy Spirit and angels.

In the predella or lower part of the altarpiece we find a reproduction of the Holy Supper that reminds us of the one painted by Leonardo da Vinci.

In the second body of the altarpiece we will see a painting of Saint Stephen, Christian deacon and protomartyr who was stoned in Jerusalem in the year 36. In the painting you can see him with the palm of martyrdom and stones at his feet.

To the right of this altarpiece is a baptismal font. It is the one currently used. This font comes from Fornalutx and if we look closely at its metal cover, on the right side, we will find the Fornalutx coat of arms: an oven and two rampant lions, with the date of its construction: 1967.

Next to the font we will see a large candle: It is the Paschal candle, which is consecrated and lit on Holy Saturday as a sign of the risen Christ and his light. This candle is lit at all baptisms, confirmations and funerals that take place in the church.
