CHAPEL OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

In the central part of the altarpiece we can see the image of the Heart of Jesus. It is a carving by the Catalan sculptor Josep Llimona Bruguera. This image was polychromed at the Esteva y Compañía house. He came to our city with the ship "Villa de Sóller".

The project for the altarpiece is the work of the architect Joan Rubió Bellver and was carried out in the Torra-Massó house in Barcelona.

On the right side of the altarpiece we can see a relief that represents Jesus at the moment of saying "Let the children come to me". On the left we find Jesus in the house of Simon the Pharisee, at the moment when Mary Magdalene kneels at his feet and anoints them.

The altar is made of black marble and in one piece. It measures 2.68 meters.

In 1939 the reliefs found under the altar were placed. They are made of Carrara marble and the work of the sculptor Joan Alcover.

On the left wall of the chapel we can see the apparition of the Heart of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque.

On June 11, 1920, the canvases that cover the entire groin vault of the chapel and those of the upper part of the side walls are blessed. They represent the Glory and, in the key of the vault, we find a circle of little angels that adore a Heart, with rays and in the middle you can read: "Apostolate of Prayer. Year 1913". The Archconfraternity of the Apostleship of Prayer, founded on February 15, 1885, was the true spiritual and economic promoter of devotion to the Heart of Jesus. We can thank them for the state of this chapel.
